MEM50007
Check operational capability of sails and sail operating equipment

Application

This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to conduct basic checks on vessel sail systems of recreational vessels in both land and water environments and relates to workplaces in which vessels are built, repaired, stored, sold and transported.

The scope of the unit is limited to identifying and reporting on the general condition of the sails and their equipment and identifying potential problems that can be easily discerned and includes basic operational checks similar to those routinely performed by machinery or vehicle operators.

This unit does not include an assessment of seaworthiness or durability and the information would be reported to a supervisor or manager who would determine any further action.

Where operational checking of other vessel components is required unit MEM50006 Check operational capability of marine craft should also be selected.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
